Performances of columns reinforced with PSWC-bars and other rebars

  Compared to concrete structures of earlier periods, such constructions of recent decades have suffered early distress. In most cases, this is mainly due to excessive corrosion in today’s ribbed rebars. The use of PSWC-bars, characterized by their plain surface and a gentle wave-type configuration, can enhance the life span of concrete structures several fold through minimization of the rate of corrosion in rebars. Tests at different universities have shown highly improved performances of beams, reinforced with PSWC-bars. It is shown in this article that the use of PSWC-bars leads to increased load-carrying capacities in the case of concrete columns too.
