Studying behaviour of concrete under impact loading using a new method

  Existing methods to study the impact behaviour of concrete suffer from different drawbacks and a robust standard test method is unavailable. Rather than determining impact strength per se, the proposed method focuses on ‘capturing’ the behaviour of concrete under repeated impacts and follows the progressive damage using the reduction in ultrasonic pulse velocity with increasing number of impacts as an objective measure. Development of design and quality control specifications are potential applications of the work. The proposed method has been developed with the aim to make it the basis for a general method to study the impact behaviour of concrete.
